Tecumseh

Tecumseh Gedicht:

Race Against The Machine

Erik Brynjolfsson’s Race Against The Machine

What do you do in your daily and weekly routine to go beyond the usual and continue lifelong  learning?

Below is an aggregation of what I enjoyed through the week to keep me thinking about the bigger picture or to get my mind out of the daily routine of things.  It consists of my usuals (GeekBeat.TV, This Week in Tech (TWiT), MacBreak Weekly (MBW)), my broadening (Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED)), and some things I’m specifically interested in learning (This Week in Photo (TWiP)).  Who knows, maybe I’ll get better at this photography and video thing.

I thought that TED released an interesting pair in the first two videos.  They seemed to compliment each other as one challenged the innovation and growth occurring and what is the true race in competition (against the machines).

For the above reason Erik’s video was the one I most enjoyed this week.  I’ve discovered his book, Race Against the Machine, which discusses the how the Digital Revolution is Accelerating Innovation, Driving Productivity, and Irreversibly Transforming Employment and the Economy.  No small set of feats, right?  Anyway - enjoy my wrap up!

You messed with the wrong city!  When I learned of the multi-bomb event on Boylston street in Boston during the Boston Marathon I immediately thought “You messed with the Wrong City!”  While these mascots are a bit better looking than the real characters of Boston, the individuals that carried out todays events don’t know who they are messing with.  The attackers clearly don’t understand the historical events which have occurred in Boston.  You messed with the wrong city!

The United States’ birth commenced in Boston during the American Revolutionary War when General George Washington bombarded the British from an elevated position at Dorchester Heights.  These individuals also don’t understand that the fans at Fenway (and far beyond) have the ability to endure an 86 year baseball losing curse in the face of a single individual, The Bambino.  They also don’t understand the global limitations and barriers that are eliminated while watching the portrayal of two young men from South Boston (Matt Damon and Ben Affleck) in Good Will Hunting. They have no clue that things with such great culture as Faneuil Hall Marketplace (including Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market, North Market and South Market) will never be affected by something so inconsequential.  And most certainly, these individuals have never enjoyed the delicacies that are created, shared, and enjoyed in restaurants of the North End.  You messed with the wrong city!

For those that wish to further challenge Boston, or any other city within our great States, you can’t possibly fathom what our citizens and country is capable of enduring.  We will continue to run our marathons…We will continue to sing Sweet Caroline at the top of our lungs during Red Sox games… We will continue to demonstrate our resilience… We will render the minor inconvenience you worked so hard to accomplish inconsequential in the face of our greater history and culture! You messed with the wrong city!
